phone down for the count [May. 2nd, 2005|04:43 pm]
If you're trying to reach me by phone, my phone is in the shop. While you couldn't be blamed for assuming this is a continuation of the Jeremy-is-the-worst-cellphone-user-ever theme, this time it's not my fault. Really.

I should have a new phone by Wednesday afternoon.

regionals [May. 2nd, 2005|11:25 am]
College regionals was this past weekend. I spent most of the weekend dealing with fields issues in the rain and trying to half watch WUFO play their hearts out. So hard not to root for them openly, and they played so awesome. CJ and the rest of the boys stepped up huge and almost pulled out a bid to nationals. Put tears in my eyes to see the guys who'd been relegated to the B team with the class of 2003 dominating the A team making sick D's and pulling out huge throws I had no idea they had. Definitely bittersweet to come up short for them I'm sure, but I hope they realize how proud I am of them, especially with the state they're leaving the team in with all the young guys getting huge PT.

where do catholic schoolgirls keep their wallets? [Apr. 17th, 2005|03:45 am]
Before Friday night's "What's Your Fantasy" party, I left my jeans with wallet, cellphone and keys at Scribner's house. By the time I got myself out of bed this morning Ryan was off (at Sectionals?) and so were all his roommates. And I had Jen + Wing's wedding at 5pm. Luckily, Ian lent me $40 and the dry cleaner was willing to give up my suit without a receipt, so I made it over to Harvard with plenty of time to spare. What a beautiful wedding -- more formal than Alice + Pete's or any of the family weddings I've been to, but Wing and Jen both looked great and really, really happy. I can't wait until my college friends start getting married. That said, it definitely threw me for a loop in terms of my own relationship as these things tend to do.

dinner chez le citgoset [Apr. 14th, 2005|01:04 pm]
Our 3rd dinner party last night went off pretty well, as Leonard and I cooked up 5 courses and lots of bottles of wine for 10 people:
- thin spaghetti with tomatoes infused in butter and chili pepper sauce
- leek and potato soup with creme fraiche and chili olive oil
- baby spinach salad with walnut oil and cherry tomatoes
- puffy souffle omelets with cheddar cheese
- baked chicken kiev with coconut rice and a japanese curry sauce

Turned out really well, I thought, and the presentation (especially on the chicken) was fun. Pictures on Jeff's site.

no sleep and a bloody tanyon sturtze [Apr. 11th, 2005|08:15 am]
It's finally here. The Red Sox home opener. Ashley, Ben, a friend of his and I heading over to Fenway in clothes that haven't been worn since October 27th. Haven't decided yet if the Pedro t-shirt gets worn. Maybe Bellhorn. But the rest of the outfit is set in stone: long sleeve Gap tshirt, same pair of boxers, jeans and my IBM sweatshirt.

Couldn't sleep at all last night, almost as jittery as during the playoffs themselves. I stayed up watching TV until I remembered I had a DVD copy of the July 14th game against the Yankees: the fight game. But, really, the game when everyone of the Red Sox realized they could get to Rivera.

Hopefully someone will take pictures of me as an emotional wreck during the ceremonies. More soon.

spring! [Mar. 31st, 2005|03:15 pm]
For those of you who went to school in the Northeast, I'm sure you remember that first day every Spring when it broke 45 degrees for the first time and everyone broke out their flip-flops and short shorts and tank tops. After a long winter of thinking there was no one attractive left in the world, suddenly everyone looked *amazing*. It's no wonder most relationships I remember (including both of mine) started in the Spring.

Well, take that feeling and multiply it by about 50 for what it felt like to be down in Florida for spring training. Walking along the beach with every girl there, including Ashley, in a bikini and most with beautiful fake tans, was ridiculous. And after a few hours of basking in the sun and the bikinis, we went and watched the Sox play the Pirates in perfect weather.

Why don't I live in Florida?

terminus [Mar. 22nd, 2005|01:59 pm]
Played at terminus this past weekend with keegan, micah (both from twisted metal), a few DoG guys and a bunch of friends / tryouts from both teams. we didn't have a big team, but it was just amazing to be back outside in the sun, loosening up the legs and breaking into a full sprint for the first time since October.

Also got my phone back finally -- thanks Craig'ums -- and while I haven't had a chance to charge it yet, I should be rejoining the 21st century any day now.

crazy days [Mar. 2nd, 2005|04:55 pm]
I've been wanting desperately to finish (there are so many good stories!) my endless report on my trip to visit Elliot in Italy, but work has been crazy.

Not exactly what I thought I was signing up for when I joined AdTech, as my current project has me acting as a glorified sysadmin installing gargantuan IBM e-business / on demand / blue / buzzword-of-the-week applications. In any event, last night I got frustrated enough with it after spending the entire day working on the machine locally, with our experts from Research working via VNC, that I stayed way late trying to get things working. By the time I looked at the clock, it was past midnight and the T was dangerously close to closing. Instead of racing for it, since I'd just be going home to sleep for 6 hours, wake up and head back to keep trying, I decided to sleep on our couches. Not as bad as I'd expected, and just a little bit of a surprise for Moose when he was the first person to show up. But I really don't want to get in the habit of sleeping at work, especially when the project (for the moment -- it will hopefully turn around once we have things up + running) is so mindnumbingly boring.

Trip was amazingly unbelievably awesome. Exactly what I needed -- too much wine, too much espresso and too much time with two good buddies.

italia [Feb. 11th, 2005|09:53 am]
Off to Italy in a few hours (via a 4 hour layover in beautiful Newark, NJ). I have only slightly more of an idea of what we'll actually be doing than I did when I left for China this time last year, but that turned out well enough and I'm sure this will too, especially since its Gonzo away from Boston and Elliot. How can we not have fun?

head spinning [Feb. 8th, 2005|05:35 pm]
After a few weeks of wondering about general directionlessness at work, today has my head spinning. We met with my boss's boss's boss and his boss, going through the various things we're working on. They seemed extremely receptive, which is likely somewhat gladhanding, but appeared at least somewhat genuine. More than that though, I felt like everything my group is working on finally clicked in my head -- now I just need to show everyone else how it all ties together in my head.

the arcade fire [Feb. 4th, 2005|01:04 am]
holy something-or-other, what a concert.

i haven't spent enough time in churches to know whether ben was right when he compared the concert tonight to a sermon in church, but it was an amazingly powerful show. the songs pack plenty of punch on the cd, but live they transcended anything i've ever gotten out of rock music before. just impressive in every way.

i've had a few too many pbr's to post more at the moment, but hopefully i'll get a chance tomorrow morning as i've promised to make breakfast with leonard at 8am.

Snow [Jan. 23rd, 2005|10:18 am]
I can't even see out my windows to see the extent of the snow. Two solid feet of powder are caked to my windows. The deck is windswept clean, except for a 6 foot pile in the middle. And now JP and I are going to try and see if we can make it to the White Horse for football today. Ha!

Ride in [Jan. 20th, 2005|04:01 pm]
Leonard and I got a ride in this morning in a Town Car who saw us looking for a cab. I could definitely get used to being ferried about, especially when it's 10 degrees outside.
